Oil on canvas: 40 x 60 cm A winter-landscape on a calm day painted from a  vantage point. The lonely farmstead is placed on lower ground to heighten the hill-side effect.  The views are far and wide. Louis Apol ( 1850-1936) most probably painted  it in the surrounding landscape of Arnhem, in the east of Holland where he lived for over 6 years. The style is impressionistic, the muted colours are those of a  country with northern light. Green moss protrudes the snowy patches on the tree-trunks. The browns are a  memory of the past autumn. Dutch impressionism at its best.
